WELCOME TO THE CONFERENCE

Global Education Week (>>INFO) is celebrating a fine fifth anniversary: An international OpenSpace-Online Conference during GEW offers opportunities for building on succesful experience, and for developing international perspectives to grow further, wider, deeper and - yes! - more together.

How can we make the global education wave grow richer and wider? Can we even advance from discussing global themes to being part of the solution by exercising positive impact on society as Social Entrepreneurs ?

This transnational conference unites youth, educators, futurists, new media professionals, young visionaries and social entrepreneurs to share their experiences and solutions in combining education, new media and positive impact on society.

The one-of-a-kind OpenSpace-Online-Format has no predetermined agenda, but allows ALL participants to equally contribute in presenting ideas, needs, questions and visions for discussion, or simply follow the conference's various chains of thoughts. Further, the format triggers exciting co-creative participation of youth, educators, futurists, and NGO-representatives alike.

We are looking forward to a most exciting meeting;
cordially,

Eric Nicolas Schneider, Coord. Café Weltgeist

Global Learning : Chance and Challenge

Global Education has proven to be so meaningful that it enthuses children and youth to pursue class issues in their spare time: in pen-friendships, local campaigning, fair trade activities and youth journalism. The key lies in combining educational and personal interests: An exciting potential to build on !

Major motivation lies in international + intercultural horizon, in self-organization and creative activism.
Major difficulties lie in: continuity, meaningful communication, isolated projecteering (curriculum/time/funding), lack of context and perspectives, computational issues, connecting to international partners and organizations, and especially in
<ACCESS> to: free teaching tools, real faces and voices, researchable facts and authentic resources, overview, on-line learning environments, international co-laborative platforms, participation tools.

LEARNSCAPES

How about collective and co-laborative internet-based LearnScapes for Global Learning ?

The term >>"LearnScape" (elaborated upon by >>Heiner Benking, independent Futurist and Mental Model Architect) carries the idea of a panoramic learning environment where we (i.e. teachers AND students) can move about like birds, bees or butterflies on a huge meadow of colourful flowers; which offers freedom of exploring, focussing, diving, but also means of searching, finding and choosing, of piecing together manifold issues of related context (as cultures, ethics, futures, sciences, democracy, sustainability...). Even of participating, offering, conferencing, co-laborating and experimenting, sharing and comparing our solutions and answers to a common issue or global learning theme. This might become so exciting that you end up visiting this virtual world in your spare time - to learn, benefit and act on it! (cf. >>educ. guidelines2)

An approach to realize this is started with this virtual conference, and in the accompanying GEW LearnScape experiments offered on the Café >>Weltgeist platform.
